What These Prefs Let You Change
| | |
 | | | | |
 |
There are currently five preferences you can set:
Flavor Theme. This determines the color of the background pattern you see on each page, as well as the color of links in the content. AtAT's default flavor theme is Indigo, the color of the last base-level G3 iMac. You can also choose one of the other past iMac "flavors," like Graphite, Blue Dalmatian, Flower Power, Ruby, Sage, Snow, Blueberry, Grape, Lime, Strawberry, or Tangerine. There's Bondi Blue, the original iMac hue, for the neo-traditionalists. And last but not least, there's even an option for Key Lime, Apple's scariest color ever. Can't decide? Then maybe you'd like the Random Flavors option, which picks one of those colors at random with every AtAT page you load. (Key Lime's been left out of the randomizer to prevent inadvertent exposure by those with weak hearts.) And for those of you who just can't wean yourselves away from the original AtAT 1.0 look, there's even a Classic AtAT setting to make you feel more at home.
Window Color. Stickies are whatever color they are, but the white background of the Platinum scene windows (like the one you're looking at right now) doesn't have to stay that way. Choose a color from the convenient pull-down menu, or enter your own custom color by typing in the hexadecimal RGB code. (Web geeks will understand-- like 00FF00 for bright green, dig?) Note: stick with light colors for best results.
Text Color. Similarly, you don't have to stick with basic black; you can also choose what color your default text will be. Whether you choose one of the preset colors or enter your own custom hex code, your text need no longer be black. Note: dark colors work best for text.
Text Size. This one's actually potentially useful. While we at AtAT like our default-Finder-style text of Geneva 10, we know that some of you have huge monitors and/or weak eyes, and might appreciate some larger text. Well, this is a really basic Preference setting that'll let you bump up the font size without totally screwing up AtAT's window layouts (as increasing the font size in your browser may do). Just choose Larger for a little size boost, or Enormous if you like much larger text. (Note: This option will only work in CSS-capable browsers, like Netscape 4.x or Internet Explorer 4.x and higher.)
Time Zone. You know AtAT's little menubar clock, that shows you the time when the page you're looking at was sent from our servers? That defaults to Eastern time, since our studios are located just outside of Boston. Personally, we think most people would like to leave it set that way so they can get a sense of chronological context as they're tuned in, but if it bothers you, you can set an offset and the clock will report your local time instead. Note that this won't affect times reported throughout AtAT's content-- only the menubar clock. Choose one of the continental U.S. settings, or specify your own offset as +/- the number of hours from Eastern time.
